Viana do Castelo, with a huge maritime related tradition, is considered to be the Northern Portuguese Atlantic Capital. With a mesmerizing coastal landscape, rivers and proximity to mountains, it possesses a rich natural heritage as well as an excellent outdoor sports tradition.
With 24km long of coastal waterfront, world-renowned beaches, infrastructure and award-winning projects at an european level, Viana do Castelo, which has increasingly come to be considered as the “Atlantic Nautical City”, is therefore pleased to present its credentials to become the host of the “Outdoor Sports Euro’Meet 2019” event.
It's natural richness enables a vast array of possibilities when it comes to outdoor activities and these can be done all year long. Activities for the area include athletics, mountain bike, canyoning, canoeing, climbing, cycling, fishing, diving, hiking, horseback riding, kitesurfing, rafting, rowing, stand up paddle, surfing, swimming, sailing, trail running and windsurfing.
We have a fantastic maritime environmental heritage, a strong cultural and gastronomical identity and a notable ethnographic and historical inheritance. We belong to the European Healthy Cities Network and, since 2014, to the World Surf Cities Network.
Viana’s Littoral Geopark is our most recent project and is made up of various geological features and monuments, some with evidence of ancient human activity that is estimated to be 500 million years old. The Sea Centre is made of an Environmental Interpretation Centre and a Sea Documentation Archive as well as 3 innovative Nautical Centres – Rowing, Canoeing and Sailing and the Surfing Viana High Performance Centre.
Therefore, we will be delighted to welcome you to Viana do Castelo in the firm belief that the “Outdoor Sports Euro’Meet 2019” will be the ideal opportunity for a visit.
Congratulations to Viana do Castelo for being selected as the organizer of the Outdoor Sports Euro’Meet 2019. This professional conference under the aegis of ENOS (European Network of Outdoor Sport) is open to all and aims to gather tourism stakeholders, outdoor sports, environment, as well as European development in order to explore the key issues around the strategic development of recreational outdoor sports activities at a local, national and European level.
The Outdoor Sports Euro’Meet 2019 should be seen as an investment for the organizer’s territory regarding all the topics dealing with Outdoor sports development.
The European Network of Outdoor Sports (ENOS) was established as a not for profit organisation at the Nature and Outdoor Sports Euro’Meet conference in 2013 (Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia). Participants recognized that no organization was representing outdoor sports at a European level and called for a representative organization. ENOS became a network of European experts, local authorities, federations, universities, practitioners and outdoor sports enthusiasts. The main objectives are:
And at the end of each Euro’Meet are shared some conclusions at the European level to provide a sustainable development of outdoor activities.
Welcome to Euro´Meet 2019.
